Washoe Metal Fabricating and Trailer Repair has been serving the Reno/Sparks and surrounding areas since 1972.
Washoe Metal Fabricating was purchased by the McVay family in 2005, incorporating McVays Muffler Service, a business started by the McVays in 1994, under one roof. So when we say we can service everything from the tip of the bumper to the tailgate, we actually mean it!
The McVay family, born and raised Nevadans, hold strong ties to the community and involvement is just about everything from rodeo to dirt bike racing and everything in between. Horse power comes in many forms…Theres nothing we wont try at least once.
Starting with our front counter sales team and their attention to detail and years of knowledge, to our technicians who are veterans in the areas of trailer repair…. every type of trailer….their combined knowledge spans over 100 years! Every repair is done with commitment to safety and quality. Our fabrication team can give life to any idea.
So from the entire McVay family; Marlene, Justin & Brittney, Morgan and Kaitlyn, come on down and join the family.
The original shop opens its doors on Bergin Way in Sparks, Nevada — serving the local community with trailer fabrication, repair, and parts. A foundation built on honest work and fair pricing from day one.
Scott and Marlene McVay purchase the business, bringing fresh energy and a deep commitment to the community. Scott's reputation for integrity and his relationships with major construction companies and utilities in the area help the shop grow rapidly.
The McVays expand the shop's capabilities by adding McVay Muffler Service — broadening their reach to include all types of automotive exhaust repair and service. Two brands, one great team, one location.
Washoe Metal now offers trailer repair, custom fabrication, same-day axle builds, the region's largest parts showroom, DOT inspections, automotive repair, muffler service, and full commercial upfitting — all at the same Sparks location they've called home since 1972.

Scott McVay has built more than a business — he's built a reputation. Since taking ownership of Washoe Metal in 1994, Scott had become one of the most recognized and respected figures in the Sparks and Reno automotive and fabrication community. Unfortunately Scott McVay passed in 2021, however his family continues to carry on the business, keeping it a local family-owned establishment.
The McVay family runs the shop together, bringing the same family feel to every interaction — whether you're a first-time customer with a broken trailer light or a fleet manager outfitting a dozen work trucks.
